The Dawn of AI in Commercial Refuelling

by Stevie Ferreira

As we stand at the cusp of a new era in transportation, I am thrilled to share a groundbreaking development that promises to redefine our journey ahead. Renati Group’s latest innovation, FuelAI, is our vision for the future.

FuelAI: The Future of On-Road Refuelling

At its core, FuelAI is revolutionizing on-road refueling. But how? Below are examples of how FuelAI can function in and benefit your transport business.

Using data to create business intelligence

Artificial Intelligence is the process where business and operational data are combined and used by computers to make intelligent decisions. In the transport industry, it typically can be the combination of vehicle telematics data, fuel prices and refuel locations, route information, weather forecast, crime statics on routes, etc. If all of this data is structured correctly, it is an opportunity to develop software functionality that can replace current manual processes with an automated process, which is more accurate and efficient. Over time, as more and more data is accumulated, the data is refined to enhance the accuracy and intelligence of the machine’s decisions.

Automated solution for your on-road refueling

Imagine a situation where the computer has real-time data on the location of a vehicle; how far that vehicle has traveled; how far it could travel with the fuel left in the vehicle’s tank; where the nearest and cheapest refueling point is. The computer calculates when the vehicle must refuel and sends an automated refueling instruction to the driver with directions, instructions and the refueling details. The driver confirms receipt of the refueling instruction and the transaction is financially authorized. All of this before the vehicle stops on the forecourt. Say goodbye to fleet cards, the days of fleet controllers forgetting to issue fuel orders, and the possibility of fraud. Say hello to a digital fleet controller that operates tirelessly, 24/7, 365 days a year.

Fuel cost saving

Expanding on the above process, consider adding the national fuel grid zones and TFN’s fuel promotions at R2S TFN suppliers. With this additional information the computer calculates the most efficient refueling strategy for a given vehicle. Having access to information on the vehicle’s tank capacity, grid zone prices, designated route, and TFN promotional pricing, the digital fleet controller automatically generates fuel orders for the routes and communicates them to the drivers. Through this process businesses maximize fuel cost savings as refueling is at the right locations with the best pricing and is managed with precisely the right amount of diesel refueling to reach the next refueling point.

Route optimisation refueling

You are a courier company with VIP and standard customers. If a vehicle is delivering to a VIP client,  to whom speed of service is paramount, the digital fleet controller will give the refueling instruction based on the closest refueling point rather than the cheapest. In contrast a refueling order for a standard client will be based on the cheapest refueling point. Add to it criminal statistics on crime sensitive areas and the refueling point will be filtered to avoid such locations.

Saving money and improving operational efficiency

In addition to saving money through a much more efficient refuelling management process, management has access to much improved and comprehensive operational data to run and manage businesses. As more and more data and processes are applied over time, the more precise and accurate data will be produced. Human errors and mistakes are removed through a fully electronic and automated process. There is no room for drivers to make mistakes or refuel at the wrong locations.
